To Cloth Diaper or Not?

I have been turning over in my mind whether I am going to start cloth diapering Ky.  She is currently going through 4-5 diapers a day, which is half what is was when she was a newborn.  I have a lot more disposables left in my stash so I was thinking I could add maybe one or two cloths in at a time to our rotation and see how it goes.  I think the deciding point for me was all of the trash that disposable diapers produce. I took out her diaper trash and was surprised at how heavy it was.  It just doesn't seem right to me to continue on this wasteful path when I could prevent it completely.  I have started hanging out with some momma's who cloth diaper and it has helped me see that it isn't so "scary and gross".  I guess education and exposure to cloth diapering have gone a long way for me.  I feel like I am slowly turning in to a hippie momma!  Wish us luck!

  1. We absolutely love cloth! She'll probably need to be changed more frequently with cloth than you do with 'sposies. For us, it's a load of a laundry ever 2-3 days. We've experienced no negatives with cloth whatsoever. The trickiest part for us, though, was getting the laundry routine down. At first we were using too much detergent and the diapers were stinking, plus baby E had a persistent diaper rash. Once we cut that back signficantly, there's been no smell and not even a hint of diaper rash. Good luck!
